The rope and band method is one of the oldest trick techniques in the field of magic. Since Hindu fakirs show similar effects with two short ropes and one, two or three wooden balls, it can be assumed that this method has been handed down by the old Hindu magicians.
The first modern version of this effect is in the form of a pocket trick that has become known under the name Grossmutter's necklace. However, the principle can also be implemented in an illusion show with the participation of spectators.
In this lesson, Harlan Tarbell presents five routines that are very different and yet have one thing in common: their trick secret is in the rope-and-band principle. Four of these effects require the participation of viewers, so they are also suitable for a stage. As fifths, they demonstrate a feat on their own body, as you hang yourself, that has its permanent place in the repertoire of street magic artists, fair actors and medical show dealers.
