Kendama - Juggling with skill
The kendama is a popular dexterity game from Japan. It consists of a ball (tama) with a hole (ana). The ball is connected by a string (it) to the handle or sword (ken). This is also where the name (Ken-tama) comes from.
Rules
The aim is to pull the ball up along the string and then catch it with one of the cups or the sword, or spear it. Various trick possibilities also allow the kendama to be swung around the arm or around the fingers. In competitions, entire trick combinations and routines are performed. The opponent then has to try to repeat the routine. If they fail, points go to the winner.
Construction of the kendama
Kendamas are available in various colours and woods. Various hardwoods are used, as is bamboo wood. The balls, in turn, are often painted in colour or even coated with a grippy layer of paint to make the game easier. With us you will find kendamas from Kendama USA, Philos and many others.
