Geschichte: Das „Out to Lunch“-Prinzip stammt aus den 1800er Jahren und wurde ursprünglich von Geistermedien auf Schiefertafeln angewendet. Oft wird es Bagshawe zugeschrieben, aber eigentlich war es William Larsen Sr. der als Erster eine magische Version mit Papierkarten veröffentlichte. Sein Effekt „Fingerabdrücke“ ist in der Juli-Ausgabe 1923 von „The Jinx“ zu finden. Unsere Literatur ist mittlerweile voll von Effekten, die auf dem einfachen Prinzip basieren, dass eine halbe Karte eine ganze Karte in einem Stapel abdeckt.
