In the past five years, Mike Caveney has worked on a number of books that basically document everything he has done in his career.
When he started, he had no idea that the finished product would fill 700 pages over two volumes. As a long -time collector of books and because this will be Caveney's legacy, he decided to make the finished product as beautiful as possible.
And now they are ready and they are everything he had hoped for.
Volume I is called Mike Caveney Wonders And contains all the routines that he has shown as a teenager at the Long Beach Mystics since his time, up to his current number, which includes Magic Paper, The Bow & Arrow and Scissors, Coat, Silverware & Chicken.
More than just a how-to-book, Caveney describes the creative process behind every routine. In the case of Magic Paper (the torn, restored and animated toilet paper), he explains all five methods he used and why he rejected each of them in favor of a new version and why he has stayed with method for almost thirty years.
The goal is to teach readers and encourage them to develop their own original routines. A look at the table of contents shows the variety of material.
Contents:
Volume II is called "the conference illusions" And is a completely different kind of book. In the past twenty -two years, Mike Caveney has recreated a number of long -forgotten tricks and illusions for the Los Angeles Conference on Magic History, and each of these tricks was a very own challenge.
In some cases, he had the original devices that once belonged to Howard Thurston or Charles Carter, and in other cases the equipment had to be built from scratch. The book describes the research on the history of the illusion, the original routines, as he tried to improve the mechanics of the apparatus, to think again and to design a routine that was suitable for a modern audience.
After their premiere at the History Conference, some of these effects were shown dozens of times for a lay audience in the Magic Castle and proved to be extremely effective hundred or more years after their creation. Each chapter contains old photos and posters from the files of the Egyptian indoor museum as well as behind-the-scenery and action photos or the performances.
Only a few readers will incorporate one of these secrets into their performances, but there is a lot to learn from the study of ideas that were created by the greatest minds from the golden age of magic.
