NUMB von Richard T. Smith bedeutet: 52 Zahlen, 4 Zuschauer, 1 Zauberer.
Und eine 1 zu 6,5 Millionen Chance!
Der Zauberer zeigte ein gut gemischtes Kartenspiel, mit Zahlen von 1 – 52 auf der Rückseite. Er nimmt ein Stück Papier und schreibt eine Vorhersage auf. Nicht wirklich zufrieden, nimmt er einen weiteren Zettel und schreibt eine zweite Vorhersage auf, mit dem Hinweis, dass später wohl eine der Vorhersagen korrekt sei. Beide Vorhersagen werden für die Zuschauer sichtbar abgelegt. Anschließend werden vier Zuschauer gebeten, je eine Spielkarte zu nennen.
Der Zauberer entnimmt die vier genannten Spielkarten vom Deck und dreht sie bildunten, wodurch deren Zahlen sichtbar werden. Zusammen mit dem Publikum werden diese vier Zahlen addiert und ergeben, zum Beispiel, 115. Mit der Bemerkung, dass wenigstens eine Vorhersage korrekt sei, dreht der Zauberer eine der Vorhersagen um: Geschrieben steht 115!
Nach kurzem Zögern, als Nachgedanken, dreht der Zauberer die andere Vorhersage um. Sie zeigt alle vier Nummern, die von den Zuschauern ausgewählt wurden! Eine perfekte Übereinstimmung!
