Beschreibung

People have been fascinated by magic for thousands of years, and magic has always been teaching them fear and laughing, trembling and marveling. The wizards once pursued as a heretics and witch champion have always embodied the connection to a parallel world, in which practically nothing was impossible whether they conjured up ghosts, read thoughts or put the laws of nature upside down.

As a science fiction, virtual reality, computer games and the Internet were still in the distant future, there was no more powerful fantasy world than that of magic. And even today, their representatives know how to amaze their audience again and again and make the impossible possible.

Magic illustrates the dazzling craft of the greatest magicians of the past five centuries. Using around 800 rare old posters, photographs, advertising notes, stitches and paintings by Hieronymus Bosch, Caravaggio and others, Magic traces the history of magic from around 1400 to the 1950s.

Spectacular illustrations and well-founded accompanying texts shed light on the development of the magic craft from the street artists of the Middle Ages to those brilliant stage artists who helped the early film to his first special effects, and from the golden age of magic in the 19th century to the Vaudeville artists of the 20th . Century and pioneering companions from the hit of a Houdini.
