Vor langer Zeit reiste ein Reisender namens Gulliver zu einer Insel im Indischen Ozean, die irgendwo nordwestlich von Tasmanien liegt. Dort wurde er von den Liliputanern gefangen genommen, bösartigen, überheblichen und gemeinen Männern, die nicht größer als 6 Zoll waren. Diese kleinen Kerle befanden sich im Krieg mit der benachbarten Inselnation Blefuscu und heuerten Gulliver an, um bei der Verteidigung ihres Landes zu helfen.
Diese uralte Geschichte, die 1726 geschrieben wurde, wird als satirisches Porträt des Königreichs Großbritannien und des Königreichs Frankreich verstanden, obwohl nur die Innenpolitik von Lilliput im Detail beschrieben wird.
